(Woodbridge, VA) – Today, Jennifer Carroll Foy for Governor Deputy Campaign Manager Kaylie Hanson Long released the following statement on Terry McAuliffe’s latest ad and his claims to be a strong general election candidate:
“Terry McAuliffe claims that he’s the strongest general election candidate, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. He eked out a win against a top Trump official, Ken Cuccinelli, in a low-turnout election by just 2.5% despite outspending him by nearly two-to-one, something he’s unlikely to be able to do against Glenn Youngkin’s well-funded campaign. We must elect a Democrat in November – but we put that goal at risk by nominating Terry McAuliffe in June. The reality is that Democrats won’t be able to win in November by nominating one plutocrat to take on another plutocrat.
“Virginians are looking for a candidate who understands Virginia’s challenges, has a plan to solve them, and will move the Commonwealth into the future. Jennifer Carroll Foy is the inspirational candidate with a real commitment to shaking up the status quo who has proven that she can win – and with enormous margins – even in historically conservative areas of Virginia by energizing a broad and diverse coalition.”
